Top 10 Summer Beauty Obsessions

Spending long afternoons out in the sun at the pool is pretty typical for most of us during the hot summer months, especially here in Texas where it gets into the 100s. Here are a few of my must-haves that won't break the bank and I find to be very effective keeping the rays at bay. I also have included a few post-sun skincare products that help hydrate and soothe.

1. Super Power Sunscreen Mousse Broad Spectrum SPF 50

The first item on my list is this mousse sunscreen by SuperGoop! I love that it's light and doesn't leave my skin feeling greasy. It also doesn't have a scent which I appreciate. I got the 3.4 oz size in my Sephora Sun Safety kit this year and have use it the most out of anything in the set. It has shea butter, olive, and avocado oils and Blue Sea Kale which is rich in antioxidant protection. The active sunscreen ingredients are Avobenzone 3.0%, Homosalate 10%, Octinaxate 7.5%, and Octisalate 5.0%.

2.  Trader Joe's Stray Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 50+

Compared to the drugstore spray sunscreens by Banana Boat and Coopertone, this one is less expensive and has the same high quality ingredients of Avobenzone 3.0%, Homosalate 15%, Octisalate 5.0%, and Oxybenzone 6.0%. You really can't beat the price and it also contains Aloe and Vitamin E to moisturize the skin.

3. Aveda Sun Care Protective Hair Veil

I have been using Aveda products for years and really like their Sun Care line. This is a lightweight, water-resistant UV defense mist that forms an invisible screen to help protect hair from sun exposure to minimize damage and dryness.

4. Glow Recipe Watermelon Glow Jelly Sheet Masks

I first started using Glow Recipe's Blueberry Bounce Gentle facial cleanser about a year ago and that was my first introduction to the K Beauty line. I have used almost all of that up and wanted to try their new jelly masks that promise to hydrate and soothe. The active ingredient is Watermelon fruit, Amino acids, Soybeans, licorice, cabbage, Peony, and Sweet Potato. After using it my skin felt renewed and the redness is lessened.

5. Smashbox Camera Ready BB Cream Broad Spectrum 35 SPF

The active sunscreen ingredients in this BB cream are Octinoxate 7.50%, Octisalate 4.00%, Oxybenzone 2.50%, and Titanium Dioxide 1.10%. I use this for my daytime moisturizer and foundation substitute in the summer months. It lasts all day and doesn't cost a fortune. You only need to use a pea-sized amount for your whole face, so the tube lasts several months.

6. Living Proof Frizz Humidity Shield

Living Proof is my holy grail for keeping frizz at bay. I have pretty wavy hair that can go into full on hair mop pretty easily when there's 100% humidity outside and I also use heat styling products pretty much everyday. This has helped resolve the issue or unruliness and I love the light fresh scent. It has a patented Healthy Hair Molecule, Octafluoropentyl Methacrylate (OFPMA). What that is works fantastic!

7. Coola Organic Makeup Setting Spray SPF 30

This makeup setting spray made by Coola is one of the products I got in my Sephora PLAY box subscription as a mini size a few months ago. I had never heard of the San Diego brand until this year. It's I try to buy products that are organic and from companies that use sustainable and responsible sourcing practices. This company fits that bill perfectly. The non-sunscreen ingredients in this are peony leaf, juniper berry, and phoenix leaf steam cells. The active sunscreen ingredients are Avobenzone 2.8%, Homosalate 3.5%, and Octisalate 3.9%. For days when I want to wear a powder, mascara (always waterproof), eye shadow, and eyeliner I use this spray to keep it in place.

8. Tarte Smooth Operator Amazonian Clay Tinted Pressed Finishing Powder

I have long time fan of Tarte cosmetics. This natural beauty product is mineral-based, so it won't clog your pores and is good for people with sensitive skin types. This powder contains vitamins A and E, antioxidants that fight free radical damage, and mineral pigments, known for soothing and softening properties. It comes in several shades and it works with my BB cream in the summer so I don't look shiny.

9. Fresh Skincare SUGAR Tinted Lip Treatment Sunscreen SPF 15

This Boston-based skincare line has such a loyal following and for good reason. It all started with a bar of soap but they have created so much more to love. The SUGAR lip treatments are a cult classic. They come in 13 different shades from clear to candy pink. For summer, I like the nude color and the Poppy.

Rae cosmetics is an Austin-based company that I discovered at Wheatsville food co-op. This highlighter is amazing and is very high-quality. This ultra-creamy, mineral powder highlighter delivers all-natural radiance and multidimensional luminosity. Perfect for cheekbones, brow bones and the bridge of the nose.
